Approximate date of signing of Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan agreement on BTC defined

The Azerbaijani-Kazakh intergovernmental agreement on joint oil pumping via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline might be signed in June, a government source told Trend. Official ceremony of commissioning of the export pipeline in the Turkish sea port of Ceyhan is scheduled for this date, Trend reports.

The Azerbaijani-Kazakh negotiations on development of the agreement is planned to be held in Baku on 10 April. The Kazakh delegation will be led by Baktokoja Izmuhambetov, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

He noted that Kairgeldy Kabildin, the Vice-President of Kazmunaygas JSC, had visited Baku in early April and expert groups discussed some issues on the agreement.

The agreement on oil transportation from Kazakhstan is necessary for 4 participants of BTC, working in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea. 500,000 barrels of oil is expected to be transported through the Aktau-Baku route after 2010. It is envisaged to construct the pipeline to the Kurik village in Kazakhstan, terminal with daily capacity of 750,000 barrels and oil fleet.
