BTC Co Prepares to Increase BTC Pipe Capacity

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. V. Sharifov/ Ilham Nasirov, the Executive Director of AzBTC Co, has said today that BTC Co, a pipeline company is preparing for a feasibility study to possible increase the capacity of the BTC (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan) pipeline through introducing some chemical reagents.

According to him, the pipeline is currently carrying 600.000 barrels of light crude per day, which produced from the Azerbaijani offshore bloc of fields of Azeri-Chiragh-Gunashli.

"The capacity of the BTC Pipeline is expected to be brought up to 1 mln. barrels a day owing to introducing chemical reagents and reinforcing its pumping stations in April, 2007," she said.

He noted that by 2010, the capacity of the BTC pipeline will require 1.2 barrels of oil per day only for the export of Azerbaijani oil.

"Piping oil produced from the Kazakhstan oil deposit of Tengiz via the BTC Pipeline may be launched in the first quarter of 2008," he said.

According to the preliminary data, the volumes of oil exporting from Tengiz via BTC may reach 100.000 barrels per day. Notably, the Consortium "TengizChevroil" led by the American energy giant of "ChevronTexaco" is the operator of the "Tengiz" Project.
