Turkmenistan sees rise in local bank savings among citizens

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 29. The total amount of savings of citizens in banks of Turkmenistan reached 3.07 billion Turkmen manat ($878 million) on February 1 of this year, Trend reports.

Data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan show that these figures are 16 percent more than on the same date last year (2.64 billion Turkmen manat, or $755 million).

Of the total amount, deposits of the population in state-owned commercial banks on the specified date amounted to 1.92 billion Turkmen manat ($549 million), which is 15 percent more than at the beginning of February 2023 (1.67 billion Turkmen manat, or $478 million).

At the same time, the share of deposits of the population in joint-stock commercial banks amounted to 1.14 billion Turkmen manat ($326 million), which is 17.4 percent more compared to the same date in 2023 (971 million Turkmen manat or $277 million).

Furthermore, deposits of the population of Turkmenistan in branches of foreign banks amounted to 500 million Turkmen manat ($143 million), which is 25 percent more than at the beginning of February last year, which amounted to 400 million Turkmen manat ($114 million).

Meanwhile, according to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar on March 29, 2024, is set at 3.5 manat per USD.
