Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.12 / Trend , H.Veliyev /

As of Jan.1, the number of subscribers of the Naxtel Company's CDMA communication operator standard amounted to 5435 people in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Nakhchivan's Communications and IT Ministry said.

According to the ministry's data, about 1,212 telephone numbers have been put into operation.

Today Naxtel wireless network covers 85 percent of the NAR's territory. As a result of 2009, four new base stations have been installed. The total number of base stations of the Naxtel network amounts to 20 units throughout the NAR.

CDMA standard is economically beneficial for the sparsely populated and remote areas and is an alternative to traditional wired telephony, use of which provides more opportunities for coverage in remote regions with telephone. CDMA standard is an alternative to DSL broadband access, and allows easier access to information (the Internet), particularly in remote areas where the cost of cable is unreasonably high.
