ANAS will increase logistics of AzScienceNet

The Information Technology Institute (ITI) of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) intends to increase the material-technical base of the AzScienceNet scientific computer network under the project "Electronic Education" (E-education), ITI Director Rasim Aliguliyev said at a meeting of the ANASpresidium.

Aliguliyev said the ITI's main tasks are the integration of the AzScienceNenet network infrastructure in the structure of the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association - TERENA and the introduction of new services on the basis of academic computer network.

The ANAS has become a full-right member of the TERENA, which allow to participate in projects implemented by the European scientific community, one of which is GEANT3, providing a further increase in the capacity of basic fiber-optic network GEANT.

Academic Network of NASA joined the pan-European research network GEANT2 in 2009.

In the long term, the academic network will be developed not only by expanding the capacity of internal communication channels, but also by providing the fiber-optic interaction with the scientific and educational networks in other countries.

Today, data transfer speed of AzScienceNet exceeds 100 Mbps.

From two to three megabits per second fell to each institute of the Academy. The ITI developed a conceptual analysis of the formation of network infrastructure of e-education, and according to plan a network infrastructure, physical infrastructure, and internal corporate infrastructure of academic institutions with access to the Internet will be formed by 2012.
