TeliaSonera acquires 49-percent stake in GSM Kazakhstan

A deal was concluded between Kazakh telecommunications company Kazakhtelecom and European telecommunications holding company TeliaSonera A.B., Kazakhtelecom said on Thursday.

Under the deal, TeliaSonera acquired a 49-percent stake of Kazakhtelecom in the GSM Kazakhstan company (trade mark Kcell, Activ, Vegaline).

According to the company, all the required suspensive conditions of the deal were fulfilled.
The deal amounted to $1.519 million.

Also, under the deal, Kazakhtelecom is empowered to receive additional fee in case of successful IPO of LLP GSM Kazakhstan by JSC Kazakhtelecom.

"We are pleased with the results and terms of the deal. As a result of its conclusion the company's shareholder value has increased significantly. We continue to expect a positive reaction of investors based on the successful results of the implementation of our strategic investment projects, including a project to build LTE networks (4G)," Kazakhtelecom board chairman Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev said.
