Uzbekistan to export internet access services to Afghanistan

Uzbekistan will export internet access services to Afghanistan, the press service of Uzbektelecom said.

Corresponding agreements have been achieved upon negotiations between the state Internet provider of Uzbekistan Uzbektelecom and Afghan telecommunications operator Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC).

During the negotiations, the companies signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and an agreement on construction of a new international cross-border interface between the two providers on the international border of the two countries.

During the negotiations, technical and commercial issues related to provision of mutual telecommunication services were also discussed.

It was earlier reported that bandwidth of the external internet channel of Uzbekistan reached 140.034 Gbps, which is 1.5 times more than the figures in early 2018 (94.034 Gbps).

Farhod Roziev, CEO of Uzbektelecom JSC, said that Uzbekistan will increase the capacity of its external internet channel to 1,200 Gbps by the end of 2018. Another 2,000 kilometers of fiber-optic communication lines will be laid till the end of 2018.
