Azerbaijan to consider providing mobile operators with low-frequency ranges next year

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 17

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The possibility of providing low-frequency range (700 and 800 MHz) wireless communication to companies with wider coverage for mobile broadband technologies will be considered in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

This is reflected in the concept and forecast indicators of the economic and social development of Azerbaijan for 2021 and the next three years, included in the budget package of 2021.

Given the limited spectrum resource, the data suggests that wireless companies will make better use of the existing signal spectrum.

In addition, it is planned to increase the share of spending per capita on mobile communications in the consumer segment to 1.41 percent.

From January 1, 2019, to November 1, 2020, the coverage of Azerbaijan’s population in Azercell's LTE network increased from 35.9 percent to 85 percent, the total number of base radio stations operating on this technology increased from 828 to 2,616 units. In just 10 months of 2020, 721 such stations were commissioned. In turn, the number of users of Nar mobile operator in the 4G network grew by 35 percent in the first nine months of 2020.
