Tariff Council intends to increase subscriber fee for telephone

The Azerbaijani Tariff Council intends to reconsider some tariffs in communications. In particular, it suppose to increase subscriber fee for local calls at expense of reduction of fee for intertown and international calls, Heydar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister, told Trend. In most countries subscriber fee is considerable higher than in Azerbaijan, while fee for services in the communictaions is lower.

The Communications and Information Technologies Ministry submitted two proposal packages to the Tariff Council. The first version envisages increase of subscriber fee from the current 3,300 manats to 10,000 manats, while international calls to the CIS and Baltic countries will be reduced by 20%, Iran and Turkey - 50%, European countries - 50%, North America and Canada - 66%.

In accordance with the second version, tariff changes will be applied only in regard to the people making international calls. Subscriber fee will remain the same for other subscribers. The representatives of the Ministry noted that the prime cost of calls was estimated at 14,000 manats. The losses comprise around 6.3bn manats per year.
