Presently 14-15 telephone sets exist per each 100 people in Azerbaijan. Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Communications and Technologies, said that this is very satisfactory, since 30 mobile phones exist per 100 people in the country, Trend reports.
Rendering of mobile services on Code Division Multiple Access System (CDMA) by Catel Joint Venture and commencement of the third mobile operator Azerfon would promote the development of this sector and boost the quality of services.
In the period from 2004 to 2006 the Ministry has issued licenses for 8 enterprises, including Skybell, Delta Telecom, Aztrank, and Ultel.
Respectively, the functioning of new enterprises boosts the investments in the sphere of communications and information technologies of Azerbaijan. Annual amount of investments in the IT sector comprises approximately $130-150mln with 11-12% of foreign investments. The growth pace of incomes constitutes 35-40%, which exceeds the world indices 2-3 times.
