S.Babayeva / During the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socio-economic development in the first quarter of 2007, Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technology Minister, reported that the number of mobile subscribers increased by 28% and is currently at 4.2mln. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Azerbaijan President, Ilham Aliyev.
According to the Minister, there are fifty mobiles per one hundred people.
In compliance with this figure, Azerbaijan takes second place among the CIS countries in mobile subscribers.
Abbasov noted that new mobile operator, Azerfon joint production, could quickly increase the number of its subscribers by 100,000.
Presently, mobile services on GSM standards are provided by Azercell Telecom, Bakcell, and Azerfon.
