Number of Iranian tourists down in Turkey, while number of Russians increase

In March 2019, 240,200 tourists from Iran visited Turkey, which is 38.04 percent less compared to March 2018, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.

The share of Iranian citizens comprised 10.76 percent of the total number of foreigners who visited Turkey during this period.

In the 1Q2019, 447,100 tourists from Iran visited Turkey, which is 39.44 percent less compared to the 1Q2018.

At the same time, there was an increase in the number of Russian tourists visiting Turkey in March 2019: 139,200 tourists from Russia visited Turkey, which is 42.91 percent more compared to March 2018.

The share of Russian citizens accounted for 6.24 percent of the total number of foreigners who visited Turkey in March 2019.

Within this period, 2.232 million tourists visited Turkey, which is 4.33 percent more compared to March 2018.

According to the ministry, in the 1Q2019, 318,700 tourists from Russia visited Turkey, which is 37.58 percent more compared to the 1Q2018.

In the 1Q2019 5,442 million tourists visited Turkey, which is 6.12 percent more compared to the same period of 2018. In this period, Turkey’s tourism revenues amounted to $4.6 billion, having increased by 4.6 percent compared to the 1Q2018, Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) reports.

According to the TUIK, 80.3 percent of Turkey's total income received in the tourism sector in the 1Q2019 accounted for foreign tourists. The remaining 19.7 percent accounted for Turkish citizens living abroad.
