Uzbekistan takes additional measures to restore tourism industry

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 6

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

Uzbek authorities have developed new measures to restore and develop the country's tourism industry, Trend reports with reference to National Database of Legislation of Uzbekistan.

According to the new decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the State Committee on Tourism was instructed to conduct an inventory of all existing business entities in the tourism sector until October 10, 2020, and identify them as tour operators and travel agents according to their activities.

In line with new requirements for obtaining a license, which will come into force on August 1, 2021, it is necessary to form a reserve of $15,000 in the Safe Tourism Fund to carry out tourism activities in the direction of outbound tourism, and have a policy confirming the insurance of civil liability of the tour operator.

Tourist information centers will be established in the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan and other regions of Uzbekistan for information support of tourists.

In addition, the State Committee on Tourism will be granted the right to use on a non-repayable basis the allocated area in airports, railway and bus stations (having 50 percent or more of the state share) for the organization of tourist information centers.

Furthermore, since August 1, 2020, the Open Skies regime was introduced for a period of two years, with the possibility of further prolongation or change of conditions at the airports in Uzbekistan.

In particular, the regime will be introduced at the airports of Karshi, Nukus, Termez, Bukhara, Navoi, Urgench, Andijan, Fergana, Namangan and Samarkand with the application of the fifth freedom of air. The fifth freedom gives airlines the right to carry passengers and cargo from one foreign country to another for a fee when flying to their country.
