Georgia names leading companies in country's aviation market

In 2019, the leading companies in the Georgian aviation market were Wizz Air, Turkish Airlines and Georgian Airways, Trend reports citing Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.

Reportedly, in 2019, as in 2018, the majority of passengers in Georgia were served by the Hungarian airline Wizz Air.

Wizz Air served 825,290 passengers in 2019, which was 16 percent of the total number of passengers. For comparison, in 2018, Wizz Air served 587,179 passengers, and its share was 12 percent in the Georgian market.

Last year, Turkish Airlines in Georgia served 572,181 passengers, which was 11 percent of the total number of passengers. In 2018, the share of Turkish Airlines also accounted 11 percent, and the number of passengers served by the company amounted to 559,749.

The number of passengers served by Georgian Airways decreased in 2019, however, as in 2018, the airline took third place in the Georgian market. In 2019, Georgian Airways served 500,482 passengers (the company's share was 10 percent), and in 2018 - 550,831 passengers (the company's share was 11 percent).

Ukrainian Airlines (207,588 passengers), Fly Dubai (204,364 passengers), Pegasus Airlines (180,761 passengers) and Pobeda Airlines (180,684 passengers) occupied four percent of the Georgian market.

Other airlines accounted for less than four percent.

The share of Georgian airlines operating in the Georgian aviation market last year was only 11 percent, while 89 percent of the market was occupied by foreign airlines.
