Uzbek government plans to create five new resident airlines to improve flight frequencies and reach new destinations, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
This is reflected in the government program for 2020 year, which was released on February 11, 2020.
"The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, State Tourism Commission and a number of other agencies were instructed to create five new airlines by April 1, 2020," the report says.
As announced, the total number of flights carried out by Uzbek airlines will increase by 2,800, and each international airport of the republic was instructed to launch ten new international flights in the "open sky" mode. All this is to be completed by the beginning of summer 2021.
The plans also include the increase of visa-free countries for Uzbekistan.
In addition, government aims to reduce the cost of servicing foreign airlines' aircraft at domestic airports by 30-50 percent to optimize rates and tariffs for passenger and cargo transportation.
Currently, international airline companies such as Air Baltic, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Russia's S7 Airlines, Turkish Airlines and other operate flights to Uzbekistan.
Recently, Belarusian airline Belavia announced plans to launch a regular flight to Tashkent in 2020.
The airline Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus. It is based at the National Airport in Minsk and provides regular flights to 55 airports of 29 countries in Europe and Asia.
