Cargo transportation volume via Kazakhstan's roads revealed

The number of passengers and volume of cargo transported in Kazakhstan via road transport in 1Q2020 amounted to 5.3 million passengers and 675.3 million tons of cargo respectively, Trend reports with reference to the data of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

The ministry said that the volume of cargo transported on international routes via road transport was 2.3 million tons during the reporting period. This includes 640,000 tons of export and 1.7 million tons of import. The volume of cargo transit amounted to 380,000 tons in 1Q2020.

The report said that some 3,500 companies currently operate in area of road cargo transportation, and 1,000 companies which operate regular bus routes.

Within the framework of measures taken to prevent COVID-19 spread and introduction of an emergency state in the country, some 117 regular international bus routes were suspended; international irregular and transit passenger traffic was prohibited; interregional and intercity passenger transportation to/from regions where quarantine was introduced has been suspended; bus stations in the regions where quarantine was introduced have been suspended.

Additionally, recommendations were made to limit passenger transport by road for the period of emergency state; recommendations were made on the need to comply with sanitary measures during the transport of goods in international traffic; 20 automobile checkpoints at the state border with China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were temporarily closed.

At the same time, the ministry said, no restrictions on the transportation of goods by road vehicles in international and local traffic were introduced.
