Trend:

Afghanistan has exported its first cargo of dried fruit to China via Iran's Chabahar Port, said the Director General of Ports and Maritime Department in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

"The cargo was transshipped via Chabahar Port to Mundra Port in India and transported to final destination, Port of Tianjin in China, by another ship" said Behrouz Aghaei, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Within a month, three cargo ships with Afghanistani goods passed Chabahar Port that is a significant record considering the effect of coronavirus pandemic on economic activities," the director general added.

"Shahid Beheshti Port in Chabahar offers regular transportation services to facilitate trade between Afghanistan, Central Asian countries, South East, South Asia and the Far East," he said. "Transshipment of the cargo through port in Chabahar has shortened the route and reduced costs for cargo owners; furthermore, cargo will be transited via the port to destinations including Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia."

"Afghanistan has previously transited its export goods via Karachi in Pakistan, but now Afghan businessmen are inclined to transfer cargo from Chabahar Port with its proper infrastructure," he said.

"The goods are transferred weekly by ships via Shahid Beheshti Port and ports in India via Oman Sea route. From now on, shipping companies operating in the Port can transit Afghanistan goods to ports in the Far East," he added.
