Turkish media talks further plans on cargo transportation along BTK

As many as 8,000 wagons with a total capacity of 650,000 tons have been transported along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway over the past three years, General Manager of the Turkish TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ state railway company, Kamuran Yazici said, Trend reports citing the Turkish media.

Yazici made the speech at the 5th Economic and Logistics Summit in Istanbul.

According to Yazici, 20,000 tons of cargo in 500,000 containers is expected to be sent through the BTK railway by the end of 2020.

The general manager noted that the ‘One Belt - One Road’ project, being implemented by the initiative of China, runs from China to Europe, and the BTK railway is in the center of this corridor.

“It is planned to transport 3.2 million tons of cargo per year and 6.5 million tons of cargo per year through BTK railway in the long term. Freight trains, which provide uninterrupted rail links between the two continents, pass through Turkish Marmaris city and are considered an important part of both Turkey and international rail transport,” Yazici stressed.

The volume of cargo transportation along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in the first half of 2020 increased 3.7 times compared to the same period of 2019.
