Rasht-Caspian railway line in Iran - scheduled to be launched in spring

The efforts are being made to put the Rasht-Caspian railway line in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) into operation in the spring, Iranian Vice President and Head of the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to him, thus, the Persian Gulf will be connected to the Caspian Sea via railway.

Nobakht added that a 260-meter-long bridge is currently under construction on the last part of the railway adjacent to the Caspian port.

The vice president noted that with the connection of this railway line to the Iranian railway network, Iran's transit capacity will increase. Thus, products of the countries in northern Iran will be transited in the direction of the Persian Gulf and vice versa.

As reported, the length of the railway line from Rasht in Iran's Gilan Province to the Caspian port in Anzali is 37 km.

The deputy Director of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC) Abbas Khatibi said that 22.9 trillion rials (about $545 million) have been spent on the construction of this railway line, and more 4 trillion rials (about $95.2 million) is to be spent.
