BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 16

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) plans to spend 60 trillion rials (about $1.43 billion) on the building of 83 ships, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Chairman of the PMO, Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing the organization’s portal.

The deputy minister emphasized that currently, 26 ships are being built. An agreement has been signed recently to build 10 of them. The number of ships to be built is expected to reach 60 by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) by organizing tenders.

Rastad added that the remaining ships are being built according to plan and can be launched by the middle of next Iranian year (October 21, 2021). The average time for the launch of these ships is 2 years. The small ships will be built soon, but the building of tugboats will take some time.

“The first batch of ships ordered to be built is estimated to be added to the ships of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization in the first half of next Iranian year,” he said.

As reported, on Feb. 8, the chairman of PMO noted that a decision had been made for the building of 86 ships in Iran by the end of the current government (August 2021).

On Jan. 23, Iran signed two contracts worth 3.9 trillion rials (about $93 million) for the construction of 10 pilot boats.
