Opening of economic ties in Karabakh to allow entire Caspian region to develop - minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 26

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

Opening the economic ties of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region will favor the development of the entire Caspian region, also creating an additional impetus for the development of Russian regions, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said in an interview with the local media, Trend reports.

According to Reshetnikov, the disclosure of the Caspian region's transport potential for many regions of Russia will create an additional impetus for development, given that it’s a potentially powerful transport hub and a strong economic region.

"Its potential hasn’t yet been fully explored, and the disclosure of its potential is, among other things, an opportunity for many of our Russian regions - the North Caucasus, including Dagestan, Kalmykia, Astrakhan - to receive an additional impetus for development,” he said. “Transit will develop here, and where transit develops, the local economy develops. We have created a special structure - the Directorate of International Transport Corridors. This working group is called upon to develop all these projects. This is extremely important for us, and we’ll work on it.”

"Trade and the economy have always been the basis that unites people. We know that all problems appear when people have no income, work, or joint business, and when they have, any issues can be solved much easier. For us, this is a priority issue, and we, on behalf of our president, are engaged in this substantively," added the minister.
