A train with thirty two 40-foot containers will pass through Azerbaijan to the Indian port of Nhava Sheva, Trend reports with reference to the subsidiary company of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC - ADY Container LLC.
"The first container train departed from Helsinki, Finland," ADY Container said. "A cargo of paper products will be delivered to India while the operators of this project are Russian Railways Logistics, ADY Container LLC and Tarkib Trans Co."
"This project is a pilot project and is being implemented as a result of close cooperation among the relevant railway operators of the countries participating in the North-South International Transport Corridor," ADY Container said.
"The movement of trains along the corridor is planned to be regular," ADY Container said. "Finland and the European Union as a whole are important trading partners of India."
"Paper products, machinery and equipment are mainly exported from Finland to India while pharmaceuticals, chemicals and textiles are supplied from India to Finland," ADY Container said.
"Almost all of these products can be transported in containers, which forms a potential cargo base for a container block train that will move along the North-South corridor," ADY Container said.
"ADY Containers, which are transported on railway platforms, have been sent to Finland for loading," the company said. "As the process of organizing the activity of long-distance transcontinental block trains is one of the main goals of ADY Container, the company has committed itself to provide a platform for the implementation of this project."
"The containers will be delivered to the port of Nhava Sheva in a multimodal mode by rail, road and sea," ADY Container said.
"As opposed to sea transport, a container block train along this corridor will greatly reduce travel time," ADY Container said. "The block-train will cover 7,200 kilometers along the indicated route."
The North-South international transport corridor, consisting of the Western, Central and Eastern routes, creates a transport connection among India, Russia and the countries of Northern Europe and is important from the point of view of using the transit potential of Azerbaijan.
The western route of this corridor runs through Azerbaijan. Given the recent threats to the global supply chain (congestion in the Suez Canal), the role of this corridor for transcontinental cargo transportation may gradually increase.
