Azerbaijan's Azermash launches new production line for vehicles

Azerbaijan’s Azermash OJSC has commissioned a new line for the production of cars and buses, Chairman of the Association of Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers Emin Akhundov told Trend on Sept.18.

According to Akhundov, the cost of cars produced on the territory of the Hajigabul industrial park will start from 17,000 manat ($10,000).

"On the new line, together with the Uzbek UzAvtoSanoat JSC and on the basis of an agreement reached with the US General Motors, Chevrolet passenger cars, Japan-made ISUZU buses and pickups will be assembled,” he said. “Prices for pickups will vary within 50,000 manat ($29,410)-70,000 manat ($41,180), and for buses – 70,000 manat-120,000 manat ($70,590).”

“The production capacity of the new line will make it possible to assemble up to 5,000 Chevrolet passenger cars of six models and up to 1,000 buses and pickups," the chairman noted.

Akhundov further said that Turkey is the target export market for the mentioned cars.

"In the future, we plan, with the consent of General Motors, to export the cars to the Turkish market," he added.

The association’s head also stressed that the parties reached an agreement on the production of spare parts for the Chevrolet cars in Azerbaijan.
