Weekly review of main events in Azerbaijan's transport sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 5

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

It was reported this week that Azerbaijani "Poet Sabir" and Turkmen “Mahmud Rahimov” vessels will be used for container shipments on the Alat-Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan)-Alat route, Trend reports.

The vessels are operated by ADY Container LLC (a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC) and Turkmen Transport and Logistics Center OJSC, respectively.

The shipments will be made in accordance with an agreement on cooperation in the field of feeder transportation signed between Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC (ASCO) and ADY Container LLC.

"Poet Sabir" vessel is capable of transporting simultaneously 225 units of 20-foot containers.

According to another report of this week, Azerbaijan and Russia have agreed to jointly solve problems arising from international cargo transportation by road, sea, rail and air. An agreement was also reached between the two countries on the simplification of border procedures.

Besides, in the outgoing week it was reported that the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) will help small and medium enterprises in Azerbaijan in logistics and transport to qualify their expertise and be more competitive in the field of their work.

Within the Private Sector Development and Vocational Education and Training program in the South Caucasus (PSD TVET SC), GIZ has provided the Transport Training and Educational Center created in Azerbaijan with computers and other equipment.

The private sector Azerbaijani companies in logistics and transport will have an opportunity to study new training programs both in full-time format and online. The training participants will be involved in advanced training for driving, familiarized with the peculiarities of the mode of work and rest, as well as with the regulatory legal acts regulating the transportation of goods by road. The project will be implemented until 2023.

This week, it was also reported that Russia's Izhevsk Radio Plant signed a contract with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. Within the document, the equipment of the CLUB-UP traffic safety system (installed on traction and self-propelled railway rolling stock, and functionally combining automatic locomotive signaling and electronic locomotive speedometer) in the amount of 18 sets was sent to the Italian company GEISMAR ITALIA, which is a developer and manufacturer of rolling stock for railway maintenance.

At the plant of the Italian company, the system will be integrated into a single-cabin special self-propelled rolling stock VMT 865GR, which will be transported to Azerbaijan after installation and testing.
