BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. Machinery and equipment, cars, trailers and semi-trailers worth 245.4 million manat ($144.3 million) were produced from January through April 2023 in Azerbaijan this week, Trend reports.
The production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 69.2 percent, machinery and equipment - by 23.5 percent, while the production of other vehicles decreased by 27.3 percent during the reporting period.
In addition, a total of 1,259 units of passenger cars were produced in Azerbaijan (an increase of 549 units), the production of trucks amounted to 145 units (an increase of 45 percent) during the reporting period. Tractor production increased by 73.4 percent to 293 units.
Azerbaijan imported 29,855 cars from January through April 2023, which is 27.82 percent, or 6,499 cars more than compared to the same period last year. The bulk of imports fell on passenger cars - 27,589, which is 27.88 percent, or 6,015 units more in comparison with the period from January through April 2022.
Moreover, as many as 55 cars with a capacity of 10 people or more, 568 electric cars and 4,474 hybrid cars were imported. Imports of hybrid cars increased by 7.65 percent (or 318 units) compared to the period from January through April 2022. The cost of imported cars increased by 32.15 percent, or $139.2 million and amounted to about $433.1 million.
Meanwhile, it is planned to create a logistics center in the Jabrayil district of Azerbaijan, which will serve as a supplier in the process of restoring the liberated territories. With its help, material and technical support will be provided, construction materials will be supplied for projects implemented in Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Zangilan, Khojavend and Jabrayil districts.
This week, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are key points on the Middle Corridor through which transit from China to Europe will pass.There is active cooperation between these countries in the field of transit cargo transportation growth. Turkmenistan is making efforts to implement transit along several routes, in particular, the Middle Corridor and the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, and also individual international projects.
Recently, negotiations were held between representatives of Turkmenistan and delegations of other Central Asian countries on the CASCA+ route. The goal is to agree as soon as possible on the unification of transportation tariffs and the establishment of railway infrastructure and container transportation for the growth of cargo transportation.
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is working on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) section with a complex geographical relief. Repair and restoration work on the railway line on the site in the mountainous and wooded area of Marabda-Kartsakhi with difficult terrain was started as part of measures to upgrade the road infrastructure, increase the capacity of the line and traffic safety.
As a result, the ongoing work will play an important role in transporting even more cargo from China and Central Asia to Europe. The fast delivery of goods from Asia to Europe with just one transshipment operation through Azerbaijan significantly distinguishes BTK in the regional transport network. In addition, the lines are now fully electrified, the construction of the railway line is mostly completed, work is being carried out at 12 stations on electricity supply, installation of communication and alarm equipment.
Also this week, Ukraine seeks to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in post-war reconstruction activities. Moreover, Ukraine cooperates with the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan in various directions. The parties have been cooperating on issues related to transit permits recently. The Ukrainian side has already received a response from its Azerbaijani colleagues regarding the granting of these permits to it.
