BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 5. The annual container loading and unloading capacity of Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port in Hormozgan Province (southern Iran), will increase from 6 million TEU to 9 million TEU with the launch of the 3rd phase, Director General of Hormozgan Province Ports and Maritime Department Hossein Abbasnejad said, Trend reports.
The director general said that currently, construction work is being continued in the 3rd phase of the Shahid Rajaee port on an area of approximately 50 hectares. At the same time, 3 new generation ships are expected to dock at the port. The length of these ships is 400 meters and the capacity is more than 18,400 TEU.
According to him, the 3rd phase of the port will be used for loading and unloading various kinds of cargo, including essential products.
“Taking into account the interest of the CIS countries for cargo transit to Iran, it is planned to start operation of a modern container terminal in the port in the near future,” Abbasnejad noted.
The official also pointed out that at present, ships with a capacity of 14,700 TEU can dock in the 1st and 2nd phases of the port.
Iran's Shahid Rajaee port is located on an area of 2,400 hectares. This port can receive 100 million tons of cargo per year.
