ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 14. Turkmenistan has discussed strengthening and expanding transport cooperation with other Central Asian countries, Trend reports.
These issues were discussed at the first meeting of transport ministers of the countries of the Central Asian region, held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
The meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim, was also attended by Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev, Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev and Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilhom Makhkamov.
At the meeting, the ministers approved the draft Agreement 'On strengthening the interconnectedness of land transport in Central Asia', which is expected to be signed within the framework of the fifth consultative meeting of the heads of Central Asian states, which will be held on September 14-15 in Dushanbe.
Furthermore, following the meeting, the parties signed a joint communiqué on cooperation in the field of transport and logistics.
The communiqué states that the parties note the importance of addressing current and emerging issues in order to maintain and develop intermodal and multimodal cross-border and transit transport services between the countries of Central Asia, as well as strengthening and expanding supply chain opportunities for the countries of the region through multimodal corridors.
