BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. The Chief Operating Officer of the Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP), Eugene Seah, traveled to Washington to participate in the 8th Annual Trans-Caspian Forum, themed "How to Maximize the Middle Corridor," organized by the Caspian Policy Center (CPC), one of the leading analytical institutions in the US, a source in the BISTP told Trend.
"The US has been paying more attention to the Middle Corridor as it allows for increased trade with the countries of the Caspian and Black Sea regions and with major economies such as China. Seah will speak on the panel 'How to Do Business Better Along the Middle Corridor: Experts Discuss Needs and Opportunities' and will share BISTP's vision for the development of this corridor'," the source pointed out.
Officials and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, as well as US and European analysts and representatives of international logistics companies and financial institutions, have been invited to the forum.
"The important role of BISTP in the development of the Middle Corridor is recognized at all levels, especially considering the steps taken by our port, located in Alat [settlement near Baku], to increase its transshipment capacity to 25 million tons of cargo per year from the current capacity of 15 million tons per year," emphasized the source.
To note, the Middle Corridor, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, is at the center of the global community's attention as it ensures trade flows between the major economies of China and the EU.
In 2023, approximately 2.7 million tons of cargo were transported through it, and this year it may reach 4.2 million tons.
