BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. The Middle Corridor can pass 200 scheduled trains per month between Türkiye and China via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line in the medium-term perspective, according to Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Trend reports.

He said that in a year, this route could handle 6.5 million tons of cargo, and the transit time between China and Türkiye (via the Middle Corridor) will be reduced from 12 to 10 days.

Uraloglu pointed out that the commissioning of the Zangezur Corridor will increase the capacity of the Middle Corridor via railways and roads.

"Türkiye's strategic position in the region will be enhanced with the increased efficiency of the Middle Corridor and the implementation of projects in Azerbaijan (transportation through the Caspian Sea and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic) as well as through receiving goods from Russia," the minister added.

To note, the Middle Corridor has been operational since 2014 and is steadily developing.

The Middle Corridor multimodal project connects China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Europe, intending to triple the time it takes to deliver cargo between the EU and China.

Meanwhile, the Zangezur Corridor project proposed by Azerbaijan is aimed at establishing a transportation link between the main territory of Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, passing through the territory of Armenia.
