Kazakhstan, Astana, July 9 / Trend D. Mukhtarov /
The former head of KazMunaiGas, Lyazzat Kiinov may become a senator, a source at the oil and gas circles told Trend on Monday.
"Lyazzat Kiinov will not work in Uzenmunaygaz or the joint maritime company," a source said. "He will not serve as a mayor (governor) of the Mangistau region. His new appointment depends on the president."
According to the source, Lyazzat Kiinov took time out until the autumn. "It is possible that Kiinov could become a member of the Senate," he added.
Earlier, the Kazakh and international media reported with reference to sources that former head of KazMunaiGas national company Lyazzat Kiinov can become governor of the Mangistau region. Kiinov has twice served as head of the Mangistau region during his career. Meanwhile, Mangistau region's akim's office denied this information.
"This information is false," the akim's office said. "It should be stressed that Mangistau region's akim's office is operating normally. It carries out its daily duties to ensure the life of the region."
It was previously reported that the powers of chairman of the board of KazMunaiGas national company Lyazzat Kiinov in this post were terminated on July 3 upon the Kazakh president's order and a decision of the board of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna company. Former Oil and Gas Minister Sauat Mynbayev was appointed chairman of the KazMunaiGas board.
