The former head of the Kazakh Statistics Agency, Anar Meshimbayeva, has appealed against the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on her extradition to Kazakhstan, official representative of Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office Nurdaulet Suindikov said on Tuesday at a briefing in Astana.
"A decision on the extradition of Meshimbayeva from Moscow is being carried out. There is a decision of the Prosecutor General's Office to extradite her to Kazakhstan, which she is currently appealing against," Suindikov said.
The former head of the Kazakhstan's Statistics Agency is accused of embezzling 764.8 million tenges (153.81 tenge =1 dollar) allocated for the conducting national census. In 2009, she was put on to an international wanted list. In February 2013 Meshimbayeva was detained in Moscow.
