BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28. Russia's Gazprom is currently developing a preliminary feasibility study for the gasification of the northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
According to Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev, the country is exploring possibilities of connecting the Saryarka gas pipeline, designed for gasification of the capital of Kazakhstan, as well as central and northern regions of the country, with a gas pipeline from Russia.
"As of today, Gazprom is working on the development of a preliminary technical and economic justification, with a completion date set for July. Once the gas pipeline route and gas prices are determined, the optimal option for gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the country will be identified," the minister announced during a public meeting in Petropavl.
Another option being considered is to extend the length of the Saryarka pipeline using Kazakhstani gas, the minister added.
Meanwhile, recently, Russia and Kazakhstan have inked an agreement on the transportation of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan.
Furthermore, the energy ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia extended intergovernmental agreements on the transit of Russian oil with an increase in volumes to 10 million tons by the end of 2033.
