Kazakhstan Railways boosts cargo transportation in September

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 6. The volume of cargo loading on the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) network amounted to 22.1 million tons in September 2023, which is 6.7 percent more than the same period last year, Trend reports.

As the KTZ said, 14.6 million tons were transported by rail across the country, which exceeds the September 2022 figure by 5 percent. Exports increased by 10 percent and amounted to over 7.5 million tons.

"8.8 million tons of coal were loaded. This figure increased by 2 percent compared to the September 2022 level. 6.4 million tons (+4.5 percent) were transported throughout the country. 2.4 million tons were loaded for export," the KTZ said.

In September, grain transportation increased by 15.8 percent, to 865,000 tons. Exports increased by 32 percent. The loading of grinding products increased by 2.3 percent, across the country - by 15 percent.

The greatest growth in September was shown by the transportation of chemical fertilizers (+15 percent), iron ore (+43 percent), non-ferrous ore (+11 percent), and construction materials (+7 percent). The export of petroleum products increased by 22 percent.

Operating cargo turnover in September increased by 5.6 percent, to 21.8 billion tonne-kilometers.

Freight turnover on the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) network has increased to 179.1 billion net tons from January through August 2023, which is 7.7 percent higher than the same period last year.

More than 69 million tons of coal were transported by rail. Of these, 48 million tons were shipped throughout the country, and 20.8 million tons were exported.

Over the past period, over 43.1 million tons were delivered to the thermal power plants, which is 950,000 tons more than the same period last year. Over 4.8 million tons of household coal were transported, which corresponds to the 2022 level.

Grain loading from January through August 2023 amounted to more than 7.7 million tons, which is 45 percent more than the same figure in 2022.
