BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 24. Active work on the reconstruction of the Batken International Airport is underway in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports citing the press service of Manas International Airport OJSC.

To date, work is underway to repair and restore the artificial surface of the runway, taxiway and apron of the Batken International Airport.

"It is planned to equip the airfield with lighting equipment, allowing the airport to receive aircraft at night. Work on the installation of the specified equipment will begin after the development of design estimates." the message says.

Notably, the modernization project of Batken International Airport is carried out at the expense of Manas International Airport OJSC, which includes 11 airports in Kyrgyzstan: 5 international and 6 regional.

Batken International Airport started its operations in 1958 as a landing strip. The current runway and terminal were built in 1984, the airport was given international status on April 19, 2014.
