Turkmenistan has applied for membership in the Egmont Group, which facilitates the rapid exchange of information with financial intelligence services of other countries, Turkmen Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Silap Velbegov said.
Velbegov made the remarks at the OSCE Regional Conference on Countering Terrorist Financing and Organized Crime in Ashgabat.
"Turkmenistan pays special attention to the international cooperation and actively interacts with the UN, OSCE, CIS, the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF), the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism and other organizations in the field of combating the financing of terrorism," Velbegov added, Trend reports referring to the OSCE.
The Egmont international group was created at the initiative of Belgium and the US in 1995 to combat money laundering and financing of terrorism. The Egmont international group includes financial intelligence services of more than 100 countries.
As for the Ashgabat forum, representatives of the Central Asian countries and other OSCE member-states, experts from international organizations, the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Western Union, Facebook and others take part in it. The conference has been organized by the OSCE with the assistance of the Turkmen Ministry of Finance and Economy.
