The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in 2020 decreased by six percent compared to the previous year due to coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports with reference to Tajik media.
The abovementioned figure was touched upon during the recent Uzbek-Tajik business forum held in Dushanbe.
Meanwhile, the amount of investments of Uzbekistan in the economy of Tajikistan amounted to $10 million over the past three years. In particular, the share of direct investments accounted for $600,000.
The head of the State Committee for Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan Sadi Kodirzoda noted at the forum that today in Tajikistan 51 enterprises operate with the participation of Uzbek capital.
Also, he noted that at the end of last year, trade between the two countries amounted to $320.8 million, which is six percent less than in the previous year. Kodirzoda named the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for this decline.
Earlier Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan stated that Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will begin preparations for the implementation of a number of investment projects in agricultural engineering, the development and modernization of road and rail infrastructure.
Also, during the talks, the sides considered the possibilities for increasing the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to $1 billion.
