BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 1. Uzbekistan took fifth place in demand for gold, Trend reports via World Gold Council (WGC).

According to the source, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan has purchased 34 tons in 2022.

“Despite starting the year as a net seller, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan ended the year as a net purchaser of gold, with its gold reserves rising by 34 tons,” WGC noted.

The council emphasized that in 2022, central banks of different countries have purchased an additional 1,136 tons of precious metals worth $70 billion (the largest figure since 1967).

The National Bank of Türkiye took first place by purchasing 148 tons of gold, increasing the tonnage of its reserves to a record 542 tons. The People's Bank of China (60 tons) also reported on the growth of reserves.

At the same time, Egypt (47 tons) took third place in terms of demand for gold, while Qatar (35 tons) took fourth.

Earlier in April 2022, Uzbekistan took first place in the world ratings of gold buyers (8.7 tons), while in May 2022, the country has become the second largest gold buyer in the world with 9 tons.
