BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. The German VDMA (Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) exported machinery and equipment worth 322 million euros to Uzbekistan in 2023, a source at VDMA told Trend.
“German machinery exports to Uzbekistan returned to pre-crisis levels in 2023 and are even slightly higher than in 2019,” the source said.
According to the source, the most important machinery sector in exports is textile machinery. Textile machinery accounted for 24.4 percent of total German machinery deliveries to Uzbekistan last year, and this figure amounted to 31.7 percent in 2022.
“This is followed at some distance by mining equipment, conveyor technology, food and packaging machinery, and construction machinery,” the source from VDMA emphasized.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's import volume reached $38.1 billion in 2023. This is 24.1 percent more year-on-year ($30.7 billion in 2022).
The main share in the structure of imports fell on machinery and transportation equipment (39.2 percent), industrial goods (16.6 percent), and chemicals and similar products (12.8 percent).
Moreover, Uzbekistan's volume of imports amounted to $9.4 billion from January through March 2024. This figure has increased by 4.4 percent compared to the same period in 2023 ($9 billion in January–March 2023).
