Iran's position in the world in terms of environment protection has fallen by 63 steps, the Jahan-e Sanat Persian language daily quoted Masoumeh Ebtekar, chairwoman of Tehran City Council's committee for environment, as saying.

She added that environment pollutants are being increased at a fast pace. According to statistics, 30 percent of cancers emerge from environment pollutants.

The official warned about traces of nitrate and chemical compounds in foodstuff, such as meat products, fruits, and vegetables in the city of Tehran.

In addition to the UV light in Tehran, two pollutants, which have increased since 2009 in Tehran are benzene and asbestos, which cause blood and lung cancers, she said.
