Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that he hopes the new US approach towards the Syrian problem is serious, ISNA news agency reported.

On Sept. 10, the White House has asked the Congress to postpone any vote to authorize an attack on Syria.

US President Barack Obama urged lawmakers in Washington on Tuesday to delay a vote authorizing an American assault on the Syrian government.

Khamenei made the remarks during his meeting with the employees of Iran's Hajj Organization.

Hajj Organization, located in Tehran, Iran, has been organizing the Hajj Mission since 1991, providing services to Hujjaj, who are Muslim pilgrims from Iran, with the aim of promoting Hajj and serving Hujjaj by facilitating and organizing all aspects of Hajj.

Khamenei expressed hope that what has been announced by the U.S., "isn't a just a showing off in the media".

"Western countries created and strengthened the Takfiri (extremist) groups in the region, and the media outlets of U.S. and UK attempted to lit the fire among Muslims," Khamenei said. "The Islam that is advertised in their media, is not useful for anyone."

Iranian officials have previously stated on numerous occasions that foreign intervention in Syria wouldn't be limited only to country's borders, and that it could spread all over the region, damaging stability and security of other countries as well.

On August 21, media outlets reported a large scale deployment of chemical weapons near Damascus by Syrian Government Troops. Over 600 people became victims of the attack.

The clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years.

According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 100,000. The Syrian authorities say they are opposed by well-armed militants.
