By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran ranks first in the world in terms of hydrocarbon reserves, Deputy Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company Reza Dehghan said, Trend reports citing Shana news agency.

Iran ranks second in the world with 34 billion cubic meters of gas reserves, and fifth in the world with 159 billion barrels of liquid hydrocarbon reserves, the deputy director said.

Dehghan added that 75 percent of Iran’s gas reserves and 20 percent of oil reserves were discovered in Iran after the Islamic Revolution.

“The newly discovered Eram gas field in Iran’s Fars province has 538 billion cubic meters of gas reserves and about 385 billion barrels of gas condensate reserves,” the deputy director said. Dehghan noted that it is possible to extract 368 billion cubic meters of gas out of 538 billion cubic meters of gas reserves from this field.

“With the production of gas and gas condensate in this volumes, Iran will earn more than $40 billion,” Dehghan said.

The deputy director noted that the thickness of the gas layer at the Eram gas field is about 400 meters, and this is considered huge thickness for the gas field.

Dehghan added that it is possible to supply Tehran with gas for 16 years by using this gas field.

Last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019), about 24 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed in Iran’s Tehran province.
