Iran says Leader’s non-optimism about nuclear talks emerging as true

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's lack of optimism about the nuclear talks is coming out to be true, said Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

He added that pursuing a good deal, Iran sat for talks with world powers and has waited 22 months, Fars news agency reported July 10.

A good deal is one that takes into account the red lines, the senior Iranian politician stated.

He added that the American party to the nuclear negotiations is not strong enough to establish what it says at the negotiation table back home.

"The opposite side is politically weak, because what it says to the media is different than what it says at the negotiations table," he reiterated.

If the West stops making excessive demands, a deal would be reached that will make people happy, he said.

Iran and the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) are holding negotiations to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

The sides failed a deadline of July 10 to strike the deal and they have given their talks another extension.

A deal would limit Iran's nuclear program and in return lift economic sanctions on the country. The deadline was set to meet the start a 30-day review period by the US Congress.

But now US lawmakers will have 60 days to examine any document, which will delay the lifting of US sanctions.
