Iran’s Zanjan-Qazvin railroad to become double-track

Iran has started work on turning the Zanjan-Qazvin railroad into a double-track railway, IRNA news agency reported February 6.

The section will become complete in one year or so, Ali Khodaei, the director of Iran Northwest Railroad (wing of Railways of Islamic Republic of Iran), said.

The section is 172 kilometers. When the second track is complete, trains will be able to travel the distance at 200 kmph and its cargo capacity will reach 30 tons, the official said.

According to Khodaei, 5.2 trillion rials ($160.7 million) will be invested in the project.
