President Hassan Rouhani and the Emir of Kuwaiti underlined the need for bilateral cooperation and coordination to establish security and stability in the region and help promote development of regional states, IRNA reported.

In a meeting with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Ahmad Jaber al-Sabah, the Iranian President stressed that the two countries have closer political relations and economic ties should bolster as high as political relations.

He also pointed to cultural, historic and religious commonalities between the two countries as well as the long history of cordial relations between the two capitals.

President Rouhani arrived in the Kuwait City from Muscat, Oman, on Wednesday on the second leg of his day-long regional tour.

He left the Kuwaiti capital for Tehran at the end of his meeting with the Emir of Kuwait.

There are numerous capacities for deepening and strengthening of bilateral ties in various fields which can be activated in line with the two nations’ interests, President Rouhani told the Kuwaiti Emir.

He stressed the need for resumption of activities of the joint economic cooperation commission in order to make activists of the two countries’ private sectors familiar with the capacities of each other.

President Rouhani hoped that the Iranian and Kuwaiti investors would benefit from all existing opportunities to boost bilateral ties.

Iran and Kuwait enjoy great opportunities to have bilateral cooperation in the fields of transit and South-North Corridor and they can use each other’s capacities in line with their own and regional states interests, said the Iranian President.

Tehran-Kuwait City are not solely economy-oriented; rather they have numerous capacities for cooperation in the fields of culture, science and modern technologies, the president said.

Referring to major regional developments, terrorism in particular, he said that great challenges facing the region are threatening all regional states and the only way to stop them is for all countries to stand against them all together and stay united against the malicious phenomenon of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Emir expressed pleasure over President Rouhani’s visit to Kuwait and hailed his unifying stances and viewpoints.

He said that existing situation in the region makes it necessary for all regional states to establish good relations with each other, therefore, Kuwait is determined to step up its relations with Iran in all fields.

The Kuwaiti Emir also pointed to the two countries cordial relations voicing Kuwait City readiness to deepen its all-out ties with Tehran.

He also appreciated Iran’s support for Kuwait during the latter's occupation by the Iraqi executed dictator Saddam Hussein in 1990.

He called for unity and coordination among regional Muslim states in the current juncture and noted all regional countries are Muslims and should take sides with each other and move in a path leading to development, stability and peace.
