The Georgian Interior Ministry strongly condemns the demarcation work being carried out on the border contact line with the breakaway regions and calls on Russia for an immediate suspension.

According to a statement of the Interior Ministry on September 22, Russian forces again led preparation work for construction of fences in the village of Dvani in the Karel region.

'The Georgian Interior Ministry expresses deep concern over this process and stresses that in spite of repeated statements and protests of Georgia and the international community, Russian troops continue the construction of barbed wire and installation of fencing', the statement said.

Meanwhile, according to preliminary data, the Georgian Interior Ministry doesn't support the moving of fences inside the territory controlled by Georgia's central authorities.
Russia has resumed the demarcation work and representatives of the Information-Analytical Department of Georgia's Interior Ministry are in place to study the situation.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
