Nineteen people were wounded in attacks across the country on Wednesday, including a suicide car bombing which targeted a police patrol in Iraq's northern city of Mosul, the police said.
A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a police patrol while moving in the al-Muthanna neighborhood in northern Mosul, wounding 14 people, a local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Three policemen were among the wounded, the source said, adding the blast also damaged one of the police vehicles.
Mosul, the capital city of Nineveh province, has been a stronghold of insurgent groups and al-Qaida fighters in the war- torn country. The province has been the scene of major security crackdowns by U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces to uproot the insurgency which erupted shortly after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
In Baghdad, a bomb planted in a liquor store in the southeastern New Baghdad neighborhood, detonated during the day and wounded four people, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In separate incident, a bomb attached in a car detonated in Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad, wounding the driver, the source said.
Sporadic attacks are still common in the Iraqi cities more than three months after the country held its landmark parliamentary election which is widely expected to shape the political landscape of the war-torn country.
