Yemen's Interior Ministry said on Saturday it would establish anti-terrorism units in four provinces where al-Qaeda militants are active, dpa reported.
The new units would be deployed in the north-central province of Marib and the southern provinces of Shabwa, Abyan and Hadhramout the ministry said in a statement.
It said the elite troopers would be "well trained and highly qualified."
An impoverished country located at the south-western tip of the Arabian peninsula, Yemen has come under pressure from the United States and the West to fight al-Qaeda after the resurgence of the group under its local branch, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in early 2009.
