Asian Cup hosts Qatar are among three teams that will face the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary Committee for not sending players to a pre-match press conference, DPA reported.

Tournament Director Tokuaki Suzuki told a media briefing on Wednesday that Qatar, Iraq and North Korea had failed to make a player available for the media although this was prescribed in the tournament regulations.

"Our normal procedure is to ask them for explanation because there might be a reason why they couldn't send a player.

"Following this we verify it with the reports of the media officer, match commissioner and others and only then put it before the disciplinary committee," Suzuki said.

"The AFC Disciplinary Committee will announce its decision on January 14 or 15," he said.

Suzuki said the AFC regarded the press conferences as an important aspect of the tournament.

"The importance of interacting with the media was explained to the teams in several workshops. Teams have to comply with the tournament regulations," he said.
