The number of anti-government protesters in Cairo's central Tahrir Square continued to grow Tuesday, with estimates saying well over 100,000 people were congregated, DPA reported.
More people were still trying to access the area, and side streets were flooded with Egyptians streaming to the protests, calling for democratic and economic reforms and the ouster of President Hosny Mubarak.
"The people want this regime to end," shouted a group of women in one corner of the square. In other areas people chanted "Go Mubarak Go" and "down with the regime."
Broaqdcaster al-Jazeera reported that people in the square were beginning to refer to Mubarak as the "former president."
Organisers of the anti-government protests had called for a "march of a million" to mark the start of a second week of protests in Egypt, the most populous Arab state.
