Arab League to gather for talks on no-fly zone over Libya

Arab foreign ministers were set to gather in Cairo on Saturday afternoon for an emergency Arab League meeting to focus on the question of imposing a no-fly zone over Libya, DPA reported.

Sources within the League said the Libyan delegation, which arrived in Cairo on Friday, was not expected to be allowed to attend the meeting.

The League suspended Libya's membership last month because of the violence used by government forces against protesters calling for Moamer Gaddafi to step down.

The Arab League meeting, announced last week, comes a day after the European Union called for a meeting with both the Arab League and the African Union to discuss the option of a no-fly zone.

"The expectation is (the Arab League) will support a no-fly zone under certain conditions," Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi said on Friday.
